When our son was born, my husband and I were living in Brooklyn, New York in a 600 square foot, one bedroom apartment. Without a nursery to decorate or any extra space for toys, we decided to spend some money on a good camera, and it has proved to be among the best purchases - baby or otherwise - we've ever made.
As I've gotten more comfortable with the camera, I've found that a good photograph has the ability to freeze life, to reunite us with loved ones in a different time and place, to bottle the heat of a summer afternoon so it can be enjoyed on a cold February morning. On days when my two year-old crawls straight under my skin and gnaws at my patience, the image of his angelic sleeping face keeps me sane and helps me remember and appreciate how fleeting every stage is.
I've now had the opportunity to take pictures for several friends, and I've come to realize that it is as exciting to me to help other people document their lives as it is to record my own. The gift of kept memories is a precious one, indeed. I'd love to help you capture yours, too. |
